The back of this property fell away too sharply to use. We terraced it in block, stepping the walls down in stages so each level holds its own soil, and ran natural stone treads between them to make the climb comfortable rather than a scramble.

Wall caps are set proud so the edges read cleanly in low autumn light, the beds behind each terrace were planted and mulched, and drainage was built in behind every course. The paver landing at the bottom ties the whole run back to the existing patio.
